Bio/Statement
Mr. Meyer is a creator specializing in sculpture and an aspiring architect who is currently pursuing a Master's in Architecture degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a focus on sculpture. His work boldly blends sculptural and architectural elements, establishing a powerful connection between the two disciplines.
In his art, Meyer confronts themes of identity and history with a sharp focus on the Black American experience. He harnesses vulnerability to forge connections within and beyond his community, firmly believing that visual art can educate and evoke deep emotional resonance, much like architecture.
Meyer's architectural philosophy is straightforward: buildings must transcend functionality; they must seamlessly integrate with their surroundings and actively serve the communities they inhabit. He asserts that architecture is a transformative force that shapes how people interact with spaces. Each of his designs embodies a sculptural quality, reflecting the profound bond between humanity, art, and architecture.
For Meyer, how one engages with a space, structure, or artwork is not just essential—it's transformative. He understands that conceptual thinking is a driving force in both sculptural and architectural design. The way individuals experience a structure can elevate it from mere form to a vessel of emotion and narrative. Through his pursuit of impactful structures and transformative artworks, he aims to shift experiences and enhance everyday lives, forging meaningful connections everywhere he works.
